Home Economics is......
an essential subject in the curriculum. It is a subject that is founded in contemporary, up-to-date thinking, giving pupils the necessary information to enable them to build the foundations of a healthy and fulfilling life.

Home Economics can.......
help develop initiative, organisational and management skills - all of which are very desirable qualities when it comes to employment opportunities, regardless of career choice.

The Home Economics Department delivers a curriculum which is relevant, meaningful and enjoyable and which allows pupils to....

  • Develop initiative, self confidence, self discipline, cooperation and the ability to work with others.
  • Prepare for effective living in a rapidly changing society.
  • Take control of their health promoting behaviour.
  • Make informed, responsible, environmental and ethical consumer decisions.
  • Gain practical experience in the organisation and planning of work, in handling a variety of foods, textiles, equipment and materials and in the use of safe techniques and procedures.
